What does Operation Hope provide? What exactly are
these winter bags?
Our winter bags are gift bags. Each gift bag contains a warm,
waterproof coat, a pair of wool socks, wool gloves, and a hat or scarf.
Sometimes, our bags include sweets, personal hygiene items and/or other
useful items.
Who is receiving these
winter bags bags of love?
Third world nationals who are employed in the labor force in the State
of Kuwait. This includes laborers, street cleaners, janitors in both
hospitals and clinics as well as anyone else who appears to be in need.
How do you deliver the winter bags?
A group of dedicated volunteers load their cars with bags and caravan out
to camps that house our recipients, or we go right to their work places
with permission of their work supervisors. Many volunteers keep
winter bags
in their cars should they happen upon someone in need. This is most often
the best source of outreach.
Why do you believe they need
the winter bags?
Most of the men and women who work in these fields of service are living
well below the poverty line and are unable to afford/access winter
apparel.
Kuwait is a desert. Does it
get cold enough to wear a winter coat?
Although winter is the shortest season in Kuwait, lasting from November
through late February, it does mean that temperatures can drop as low as
38 degrees Fahrenheit. It is also the rainy season.
Approximately how much does it
cost O.H. to put a winter bag together?
Each bag contains a water-resistant, flannel/wool lined coat, wool socks,
wool gloves, and either a cap or scarf, therefore we budget KD 5 per each
coat bag. Every piece of winter apparel is purchased at wholesale prices.
Who volunteers for O.H. and
what do they have to do to help?
People from every walk
of life volunteer their help to O.H. We invite everyone regardless of
age, nationality, religion or socio-economic background to join in this
humanitarian effort. Volunteers do everything from stick labels to gift
bags, to packing gift bags; from moving cartons of coats to carrying a
gift bag to the needy. If you have time to spare - we’d love to have you
join our army of volunteers!
